Does Toyota Have A Diesel Truck?
The answer is NOT YET BUT SOON!
Reportedly in 2018 we will see a version of the Tundra that does feature a diesel engine choice. Interestingly it won’t just be the 4.5 liter turbocharged engine found in the current Land Cruiser. Toyota is working with BWM to develop a new diesel. An interesting choice. The new engine is reported to be a 3 liter inline 6 that is turbocharged which would actually create more power and torque than the Land Cruiser. Eventually Toyota will make an even larger 4 liter version of the same engine with Toyota made parts. These would have a sequential turbocharging system which would allow the engine to offer 400hp and well over 700lb-ft of torque.
That’s a lot more than any of the current diesels found on the market today. With the new stronger chassis that we know are on the way the Tundra could tow over 15,000lbs and still be much more efficient than the gas models currently available. Many say that the Tundra Diesel is a response to Nissan’s newest model in the large truck market, the Titan XD. Stay posted for a battle of the import trucks to see who is going to get the top spot behind Ford and Chevrolet.
